Speechless

As we wrap up the school year, Niomi and I have been making a reading plan. We have a summer reading goal to make sure she stays in her books. You see, her school challenges her to read a book every night and to write about it by selecting one question out of a list to answer. So every night, we meet this challenge.

This particular night, Niomi chose to read God Made Me. It is a beautiful story that dedicates each page to some object, creature, or being that God has made. The last page reminds the little reader that God made them too. When Niomi completed reading that last page, she took off running to the bathroom. I thought nature was calling.

When she returned, she had tissue in hand and was wiping her eyes. “Are you crying,” I asked? “Yes,” she responded. Of course, I needed to know why. Niomi couldn’t explain it. All she knew is the book made her feel something, and it brought tears to her eyes. She was clueless as to why she was crying.

Her tears brought me so much joy. I had a smile plastered on my face that had to be a mile long. Did the Holy Spirit just tap my girl on her shoulder? Did He just leave her in wonder and awe? This simple little book. He just used what appeared to be a children’s story declaring that God made all things to reveal God’s love to my little one. I delighted in this for a while, and it became my source of praise for some days.

He just doesn’t do it for Niomi. The Holy Spirit is revealing our Savior to us daily. It is up to us to stop and be still long enough for our eyes to open and our ears to be tuned in. Our Father tells us that He has treasures for us. These treasures go beyond the blessings we can identify with our senses. He is our treasure, and to obtain the fullness of His mighty worth, we must diligently seek and hunt for Him. Be ready to see God in everything!

Remember in 1 Kings 19? Elijah did not find our Lord in the strong wind that tore into the mountains, nor in the earthquake or fire. Instead, the still small voice that came after the grand gestures is where Elijah found and heard God.

He is speaking, let us be ready to listen as the Holy Spirit reveals His heart to us in even the simplest of things.

Love,

Nona
